Keys to the Kingdom

This April we were excited to get to take our middle son on his "Keys To the Kingdom" tour for his 16th birthday (although it was a belated birthday present.)

Now this is my son who loves to draw like his mother loves to draw. But instead of drawing architecture, he loves cartooning and is very good at it. I know I am his mother and may be prejudiced when it comes to my children. But seriously, these are great. What do you think?

While I love to work on my Disney art... all you Disney fans know the feeling of immersing yourself in your favorite Disney passion... right now I am in the midst of sixteen commissioned pieces to complete before Christmas. This leaves no time for Disney art. One day I will get back to drawing the most magical place on earth. Until then I will be working busily at my drawing board. An upcoming trip, creative countdown, and giveaway...

I just had to share some of my son's creativity. We are just days away from our upcoming trip to Walt Disney World. We are all very excited and my son is one of the chief 'spreaders of the pixie dust' in our home. He loves WDW... and he loves to use the Paint application on the computer. Almost every morning lately he has left a "surprise" on my computer to help me get ready for our trip. I just had to share a few of these!

And now for the giveaway...

You'll have to work for your prize. Everyone who leaves a comment on this post and can tell me one of the places on which either the 16-day and 11-day countdown pictures by my son are based on within WDW, I will put your names into a hat and allow my son (with the pixie dust) to draw the winner. What is the prize, you ask? You will receive your choice of one of my EPCOT collage series prints. Here are the choices:

You can click any of the images above to view a larger version of the drawing. The print, of course, will not have the "watermark" on it. It will be a 9" x 12" print of the original drawing on acid-free Bristol paper. Once the winner has been drawn, they will be notified and can e-mail me with their mailing address and to let me know which print they would like. I want to give those who would like to enter some time to do that, so I will be picking a winner on Wednesday, September 22nd.

Quick Sketch of Walt Under Castle

This is a very quick pen and ink sketch I did last year of the famous picture of Walt walking under the castle gate. There are many reasons that I love this picture. I love thinking about what Walt could have been thinking... I am sure his wheels were turning about something new at the park. Also, the fact that he is actually dwarfed by the size of the castle gate really is symbolic of how big his vision truly was. It was so much bigger and much more far-reaching than he could possibly ever know. And we are so fortunate that he wouldn't let his dream die!

I am looking forward to getting back to more of my Disney sketches now that my spring art show season in over.

One of these days I will get back to sketching Disney...

(These pictures were actually taken by my oldest son, who is developing quite a way with a camera.)

As for this last picture... it reminds me how saddened I was in January to find that the Norway Viking ship has been dismantled and now lies in pieces strewn here and there opposite the restrooms and Kringla outdoor eating area. The beautifully carved masthead seemed to be just another addition to the shrubbery. I wonder what was behind this decision?

EPCOT in January

Week before last, hubby and I spent the week in Orlando at a conference. So, of course we had to give a little time to the main mouse! The crowds were so low that we wished we had two weeks and the whole family with us. The fantastic temperatures didn't hurt either. Once again, I roamed World Showcase with my camera collecting images to draw. Now, I just have to get busy doing the drawing!

and I have been working on commissioned artwork steadily since Thanksgiving. But, I had to come and do a little reminiscing from our Disney trip in September. I haven't had a chance to do any Disney artwork lately since I am working on commissions. So, I am going to share some more photos from our recent trip. This was one of my favorite discoveries of the trip... some of the original concept art and models for EPCOT.
